We came to Haymans Market specifically to try Sushime By Salome after reading so many positive reviews. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. We ordered three different rolls, but they all tasted surprisingly similar. As serious sushi fans, we felt the flavors were overshadowed by heavy toppings and sauces, which made it hard to appreciate the fish or any distinct ingredients. It felt more like sushi for people who like the idea of sushi, rather than for those who enjoy the clean, subtle flavors and textures that make sushi special—especially when it comes to fresh fish. Given the price point—just a few dollars less than more refined sushi spots on the island—we’d probably opt for one of those instead next time. On the upside, we discovered Deldia’s Kitchen right next door, and their butter chicken was fantastic. Rich, comforting, and full of flavor—we’d absolutely go back for that and definitely recommend giving them a try. In the end, Sushi by Salome might be a hit if you’re looking for a fun, heavily dressed roll. But if you're looking for more traditional, balanced sushi with clean flavors, it may not be the best fit.

My wife and I had been craving some really great sushi -something we felt we had yet to find in Barbados- when we came across an ad for Sushime by Salome in Hayman’s Market and are we ever ECSTATIC we did! First of all, Hayman’s Market is stunning. It was a half hour drive (each way!) for us, but 100% worth it. This was our first time at Hayman’s and although we arrived near the end of the day as some shops were closing up, it’s so clear how wonderful the space and all the marketers are -I’ve never had a better time waiting for a pickup order. So while this first trip was just destined to be a relatively quick pickup, we are most definitely planning a return where we will utilize a table in the enormous and gorgeous seating area while we enjoy performers on stage or a show on that incredible big screen! So location: A+! Now for the service: Salome and the employee working at the time (I’m so sorry we didn’t get your name!) were SO kind and personable! They took our order (not a small one, by the way!) and let us know it would be about 20minutes while they made everything fresh, by hand. We came back just a tad early and had just the best conversation with Salome! She is the kind of person that after just a few minutes, it feels like we’ve been friends for years. She is exactly the kind of small business owner we want to support and talking with her really contributed to the wonderful time we had that afternoon. If I were being selfish I’d hope when we go back in the future it isn’t busy so that we have the opportunity to talk some more -but I’m writing this review to encourage absolutely everyone to try this extraordinary sushi and support Salome and her business for a reason, thus, I hope she ends up the most popular shop in the market! Finally, the food: OH. MY. GOSH. The food!!! It was delicious beyond explanation, I don’t even know where to begin! The recipes have so obviously been crafted with care and expertise. Every ingredient in each item complimented each of the others so well. My personal favourite was the Rainbow Roll, but that’s not to say anything at all negative about the Alabama Roll OR the Salmon Tofu Pockets that rounded out my order because all of it was phenomenal! I also tried some of my wife’s Philadelphia Roll and also just EXCELLENT! So much so that next time I don’t know if I want to order the same things (because they were just so freaking delicious) or try other items because if our first order was so good, odds are the rest of the menu also deserves to be sampled, right?! I also can’t understate how fresh and high quality the ingredients in every single thing we ate were; it was very clear in talking with Salome that she is very passionate about her food and what goes into it. My wife & I grew up on the east & west coasts of Canada, so we know what fresh, high quality salmon is and how it should taste and that’s exactly what we got in our sushi. The tuna, the crab, the prawns, the tobiko… we practically had a seafood buffet and every one of them was top notch. The veggies did not disappoint either; getting the perfect avocado can practically be a magic trick and yet the avocado in all our rolls was at its peak. I don’t think words exist that could overstate how delectably devine our meal was. This food was so scrumptious that while I meant to come home and take a cute photo to commemorate our special date night, once I took a first bite all memories of that intention vanished from my mind and it wasn’t until my very last piece that I remembered I had wanted to take a photo to begin with! We were looking for a special treat in going to Sushime by Salome and we got what we came for AND MORE. Our expectations were well exceeded -the responsible adult in me has to be grateful that we don’t live closer because I don’t think our wallet could take the hit of how often we would be taking ourselves for this “special treat” otherwise 😅 In summary: we will be back! And if you’re a sushi-lover in Barbados, you should be headed to Hayman’s Market for Sushime by Salome too!

Phenomenal sushi, exceptional service! Sushime by Salome did not disappoint. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last night and will be ordering again, in the near future.

The sushi is great but the tofu pockets are out of this world amazing !!!! Best I have ever had! Service is also amazing, Salome is very attentive to each customer's needs and preferences.

We just had Sushi by Salome for the first time as we are new to Barbados. It was amazing! Salome is super-talented and has an eye for presentation and a diverse flavor profile. We look forward to having this experience in near future! We meant to take pictures, but we "wolfed" it down before we remembered!
