Quite literally heaven on earth. We have just returned from 9 blissful nights spent at shades of Barbados. From start to finish we were treated like family by Bernard & Rochelle who are the kindest, most accomodating hosts. I worry with travelling with my small children but they put me at ease reminding me we're on holiday and my time to relax. The apartments are beautiful and cool with enormous showers that are perfect for showering little people, beds are so comfortable with super soft bedding. The pool & gym area is stunning there is even an open area where you can do yoga and stretching and you even have Monkeys in the neighbouring trees. Payne's Bay beach is a stone's throw away and our favourite beach, loungers are very reasonably priced. Everything you need is on your doorstep, the reggae bus that goes up the west coast, taxis are a plenty & holetown up the road for shops and restaurants. We felt that we were able to experience more of the real Barbados at shades rather than being caged in at a resort and the added bonus being our fellow guests being so kind and friendly. I cant rate shades highly enough and will be returning, it really is a jewel in Barbados run by the loveliest family. Thank you so much - Emma, Sami, Nina & Rose

Folks... this place is amazing First time to barbados and I did a crazy amount of research on where to stay... wanted beachfront place and ended up nites 1 and 2 at a spot on dover beach... not bad and u can never argue with beach front...that said... took a flyer on Shades for nites 3-4-5 and zero...repeat...zero comparisons on a 300 ish usd a nite at shades vs dover area...a unique stay...quality lodging.. intimate stay with maybe a dozen villas... clean...new... great gardens and pool... if this place is on the ocean it would be 800-1000 plus a nite. Gardens/pool/vibe all off the hook Owner is beyond cool Walk 3 min to mr vics for quality music and drinks 5 stars plus

We recently spent a week at Shades of Barbados, staying in the Penthouse apartment. This is a beautiful little hotel, nestled amongst wonderful greenery, a two minute walk down the road to Paynes Bay Beach (be careful while crossing the road at the bottom of the hotel road. It can get busy. One does not hear this road from the hotel. The beach itself is beautiful and is about 500 m long. We had the privilege of seeing turtles feeding near the beach). We heard and saw many birds from our terrace. We also saw monkeys in the garden. The pool was very nice and refreshing. There is a small gym with free weights and a few machines, which we appreciated. The apartment itself was well stocked, clean and very comfortable as well as beautiful. Rochelle was incredibly attentive and helpful. All in all a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend.

Wonderfully large apartment with a great patio that overlooks the pool area. Very friendly hosts. Loved the daily visits from the monkeys also. Keep in mind you will need to purchase all the basics (soap, paper towels, salt, etc) for your stay. Had some issues with various insects but probably to be expected in this environment.

We went to shades with our 2 daughters and sons in law for a special treat for my husbands 70 th birthday. It was recommended to us by a friend who has been multiple times.it didn’t disappoint. Rochelle who’s family own shades could not have been more helpful both before we went and while we were there. The complex itself is like a lush oasis and just a short stroll from a wonderful beach and very handy for Holetown. The pool was beautiful and felt very private. The apartments are very well designed and have everything you could possibly want. We can not reccommend highly enough and would love to go back.
