I’ve become somewhat of a regular at this cafe — I’ve been at least six times over the past year, and twice just recently! Every visit has been consistently great. The food is excellent, and while wait times can sometimes be a bit long, that’s just the nature of restaurants.
The staff is friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which makes every visit a pleasure. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ordered so far, and I highly recommend it. Perfect for anyone looking for a nice, quiet, friendly vibe. 🌿 If you’re on the island and want something a little different from the typical restaurant scene, this is a personal favorite of mine! 💛

I visit place very frequently and I love the vibe.
Tucked into the historic grounds of the George Washington House in Bridgetown, the George Washington Coffee House offers a unique café experience where history and flavour meet. With its lush garden patio, shaded seating, and breezy indoor-outdoor space, the setting is instantly welcoming and relaxing an inviting escape from the bustle of the city.
One of the first things you’ll notice is how the café is nestled in a charming heritage location once the stables of the mansion—and now transformed into a mellow garden café. The stone-paved terrace, leafy surroundings and hints of history all around give it a calm, somewhat elegant yet unpretentious vibe. Reviewers note it’s laptop-friendly, too-so whether you’re grabbing a leisurely brunch or finding a quiet spot to work with good coffee, it fits the bill.
The menu is something of a delightful fusion: Latin, Caribbean, African and European influences all appear in dishes that stand out for both flavour and creativity. For example, arepas stuffed with savoury fillings, empanadas, or tostones topped with black beans and salsa make an excellent lunch option. Breakfast and brunch options are also strong: you’ll find a well-executed Creole breakfast, hearty omelettes, a vegetarian burger, and beautifully made brownies or pastries for light indulgence. On the drink front, the coffee is praised as “some of the best” on the island—with a solid espresso machine, cold brews and freshly squeezed juices.
Service & Practical Tips
The staff receive frequent compliments for being friendly, attentive and eager to make your visit enjoyable. One Redditor noted the presence of a friendly café cat, adding to the laid-back charm of the place. On the practical side: the café opens daily from 8 am to 4 pm. And while many visitors found the service prompt, there are a few reports of slower service during busy periods, so going earlier or mid-morning may give you the best experience.
The Verdict
If I were summarising, I’d say the George Washington Coffee House is a standout among cafés in Bridgetown for its combination of great coffee, inventive food, and beautiful historic setting. Whether you’re staying nearby and fancy a relaxed morning with a latte and pastry, or you’re exploring the Historic Garrison area and want a stylish yet comfortable lunch, this is an excellent choice. The only caveat: during peak times the service might lag a little, so your best bet is to go early or allow a bit of extra time.
In short: go there for the ambiance and good food, stay for the coffee and the setting. Highly recommended.

Of all the places my family and I ate at during our time in Barbados a month ago, this place was number one in terms of service and hospitality. Our servers were Jazaria and Camilla and they made sure that we were catered to from the moment we arrived until we departed. Not only was the service great, but the food was delicious. We ordered the omelette, arepas, and French toast and everything was good! Make sure you pay them a visit if you’re in Bridgetown! You won’t be disappointed.

The breakfast menu is amazing here and heaven for vegetarians like us. We tried various vegetarian options and surprisingly all were super delicious. The kids loved it a lot too. Would definitely recommend trying it out.
